How to Set Up AirPods
For iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch
1. Ensure Your Device is Updated
- Make sure your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for updates.
2. Turn On Bluetooth
- Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your device. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and toggle it on if it isn’t already.
3. Open the AirPods Case Near Your Device
- With your AirPods in the charging case, open the lid and hold it close to your iPhone or other Apple device. A setup animation will appear on your screen.
4. Connect Your AirPods
- Tap “Connect” on the setup screen. Follow any additional instructions that appear on your device to complete the pairing process. If you have AirPods Pro or AirPods (3rd generation), you might be guided through additional settings like Siri and noise control.
5. Check the Status Indicator
- The light inside the case should turn green, indicating that your AirPods are fully charged and connected.
For Mac
1. Open System Preferences
- Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and select “System Preferences.”
2. Go to Bluetooth Settings
- Click on “Bluetooth” to open the Bluetooth settings window. Ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
3. Open the AirPods Case
- With your AirPods in the charging case, open the lid and hold the case close to your Mac.
4. Pair Your AirPods
- Your AirPods should appear in the list of available Bluetooth devices. Click “Connect” next to your AirPods. Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.
For Android and Other Devices
1. Turn On Bluetooth
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your Android phone or other non-Apple device. Go to your device’s Bluetooth settings and turn it on.
2. Open the AirPods Case
- With your AirPods in the charging case, open the lid.
3. Put AirPods in Pairing Mode
- Press and hold the setup button on the back of the AirPods case until the status light starts flashing white.
4. Connect via Bluetooth Settings
- On your Android or other device, go to the Bluetooth settings and select your AirPods from the list of available devices to pair and connect.
Additional Tips
- Using AirPods Across Devices: Once connected to one Apple device, your AirPods can automatically switch between devices signed in with the same Apple ID, like your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- Customize Settings: On iOS devices, you can customize your AirPods settings by going to Settings > Bluetooth, tapping the “i” icon next to your AirPods, and adjusting options like double-tap actions or noise control.
- Check Battery Status: You can check the battery status of your AirPods and charging case by opening the case near your iPhone or checking the Batteries widget on iOS. On Mac, you can check the battery status in the Bluetooth menu.
- Find My AirPods: If you lose your AirPods, you can use the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad to locate them.
