How do I set up Face-ID or Touch ID?

Setting Up Face ID

1. Go to Settings

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

2. Select Face ID & Passcode

  • Scroll down and tap on “Face ID & Passcode.”

3. Enter Your Passcode

  • If you already have a passcode set up, you’ll need to enter it to proceed.

4. Set Up Face ID

  • Tap on “Set Up Face ID.”

5. Position Your Face in Front of the Camera

  • Hold your iPhone in portrait orientation and position your face within the frame. Ensure your face is centered and well-lit.

6. Move Your Head to Complete the Circle

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to move your head slowly in a circular motion to complete the first scan. This allows the camera to capture different angles of your face.

7. Complete the Second Scan

  • After the first scan, tap “Continue” and repeat the head movement to complete the second scan.

8. Face ID Setup Complete

  • Once both scans are done, you’ll see a message that Face ID is set up. Tap “Done” to complete the process.

Setting Up Touch ID

1. Go to Settings

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

2. Select Touch ID & Passcode

  • Scroll down and tap on “Touch ID & Passcode.”

3. Enter Your Passcode

  • If you already have a passcode set up, you’ll need to enter it to proceed.

4. Add a Fingerprint

  • Tap on “Add a Fingerprint.”

5. Place Your Finger on the Home Button

  • Place your finger (the one you want to use for Touch ID) on the Home button. Lift and rest your finger repeatedly until the fingerprint graphic is completed.

6. Adjust Your Grip

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust your grip. This helps the sensor capture the edges of your fingerprint.

7. Complete the Process

  • Continue lifting and resting your finger on the Home button until the setup process is complete. You may be asked to adjust your finger slightly to capture all parts of your fingerprint.

8. Touch ID Setup Complete

  • Once the fingerprint is fully captured, you’ll see a message that Touch ID is set up. Tap “Continue” to finish.

Additional Tips

Adding More Fingerprints (Touch ID):

  • You can add multiple fingerprints by going to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Add a Fingerprint. This is useful if you want to use different fingers or allow someone else to access your iPhone.

Enabling Face ID for Apps and Purchases:

  • You can enable Face ID for specific apps and Apple services like Apple Pay, the App Store, and iTunes by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and toggling on the options under “Use Face ID For.”

Using Face ID with a Mask (iOS 15.4 and Later):

  • If your iPhone supports it and you’re using iOS 15.4 or later, you can set up Face ID to work with a mask by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Face ID with a Mask.

That’s it! Your Face ID or Touch ID is now set up and ready to use for unlocking your iPhone, making purchases, and more.
